What inspired your business idea?
As a former web design agency owner, I often had small business clients asking me what they should do for their website policies. Being an agency owner and not a lawyer, I would have no idea what to recommend after the client tells me ‘lawyers are too expensive’. Often times clients would take policies from a competitor website and slap it onto their own website which I knew was not a great strategy. Coincidentally I happened to be dating (and ultimately married) a privacy attorney. Her practice offered website policies, but at a price my clients could not afford. This was our motivation to start Termageddon; a website policies solution that not only helps create the disclosures required under today’s applicable laws, but also gives customers a *strategy* to keep their policies up to date with changing legislation. And with our passion being to help small business owners, we keep our pricing affordable so that virtually any business can get comprehensive, auto-updating policies added to their website.
What is one software tool that has helped your business?
Firstpromoter.com. It’s a software system that helps us manage recurring affiliate commissions automatically. Our business model is to advocate privacy best practices and education, and we rely on third parties to help deliver this information to their audience. Termgeddon doesn’t grow unless people first understand the importance of respecting people’s privacy rights, and that is why a core part of our business model is to work with individuals who can share the benefits of having proper policies in place (and how Termageddon could potentially be a good solution to fill that need). With advocacy being a core part of our business strategy, we want to compensate the people who take the time to educate their audience about privacy, and FirstPromoter is an excellent vehicle for ensuring we can properly compensate these individuals on an ongoing basis.
