What inspired your business idea?
I’ve always had a love for Pokémon cards, but it wasn’t until I revisited the hobby as an adult that I realized how much opportunity there was to build a business around it. What started as collecting for fun turned into a way to connect with others in the hobby, share knowledge, and build a community—while also turning a profit. The mix of nostalgia, entrepreneurship, and passion for the game made it an easy decision.
What was the first step in getting started?
The first step was diving back into my old collection and educating myself on current market trends, card values, and grading standards. From there, I started buying and selling small lots to learn what moved quickly and what collectors were after. I also launched a dedicated Instagram page to showcase inventory, build trust, and engage with the community directly.
Is your side hustle profitable? If yes, how do you make money?
Yes, it’s profitable. I make money primarily by sourcing undervalued cards through local deals, online auctions, and collections, then reselling them individually at a margin. I also attend card shows and do private sales through social platforms. Grading select cards through PSA adds another layer of value that can lead to bigger returns when done strategically.
What is one software tool that has helped your business?
TCGPlayer has been extremely helpful for checking real-time market prices, tracking card demand, and making smarter buying and selling decisions. I also rely heavily on Google Sheets to manage my inventory, track profit margins, and stay organized with PSA submissions and show planning. Together, they give me the data and structure I need to run things efficiently.
